Light & Space
ERL uses light as an artistic medium to create experiential installations that can be temporary or permanent. Our illuminated artworks have ranged from city infrastructure to immersive interactive spaces. Light continues to be a focus of our work, and the images here represent a small selection of the Lab's experiments and past projects.

In recognition of more than 100 years in operation, RSVR was selected to create a permanent art lighting installation on the Fremont Bridge. As part of a two-year artist and residency program, lighting installations frameworks have also been developed for two other historic bridges in Seattle.
The Bridge Lights project is a joint effort between the Office of Arts & Culture and the Seattle Department of Transportation. The organizations commissioned us to create a contextually sensitive art lighting design that reflects seasonal, solar and lunar patterns.

Golden Hour is a sight specific light installation encircling South Lake Union Park’s boat pond.
Golden Hour uses a series of warm monochromatic lamps to re-imagine how existing public architecture can serve as an armature for pedestrian gathering and individual reflection through the introduction of light.

Orchestrated Horizon was crafted in response to the surrounding urban environment of Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood. This intricate, ephemeral sculpture stretched nearly 50 feet and resided in the heart of Seattle’s Pike/Pine corridor, serving as a point of reflection in one of the city’s most diverse and rapidly transforming neighborhoods.

In the multiple studies or works below we use light to create singular objects, sculptural or environmental in scale. We love working with light as it often requires active, and often multi-sensory, participation by the viewer.
