Undercurrent
An Immersive Installation at METHOD Gallery
Undercurrent turns sound, light, and reflection into something you can feel. A shallow pool vibrates with audio, sending ripples through the space. The immersive installation reveals subtle movements often overlooked, inviting viewers to slow down and observe the often invisible forces.
-
Custom-programmed DMX lights outline the arch, catching the water’s surface and scattering ripples of light across the room.
-
A custom soundscape invites viewers into the space, creating an unfamiliar yet intriguing spatial environment.
-
Four independently wired speakers line the pool, each with a 3D-printed plunger ready to fracture the still surface of the water.
Dance Activation
Accompanied by performers from the Seattle Ballet, Undercurrent served as a host for interdisciplinary artists across a variety of mediums, becoming a hub for local artists.
Behind The Build
The build relied on intentionally simple materials—zip ties, unstained birch plywood, and concrete pavers, so nothing would distract from the experience. By stripping the architecture down to essentials, the work encouraged viewers to turn their attention inward.
